Johannesburg, Monday, 19th August 2019 - Morocco will be hosting some of Mzansi’s top aquatics talent when the swimming programme of the 12th All Africa Games take place from 21st to 24th August 2019 in the capital city of Rabat.
The South African swimming team topped the medal podium in 2015 with a total of 54 medals and will be looking to better that count with the likes of Douglas Erasmus returning to the competition in the 50 and 100m freestyle as well as the 50m butterfly.
The 50m breaststroke will certainly be an interesting race as Youth Olympics gold medallist Michael Houlie strives to hold on to the top spot when he competes against Brad Tandy.
Houlie will also race the 100m breaststroke, while Tandy will take on the fast 50m freestyle alongside Erasmus.
On the ladies’ side, some powerful performances are expected from Erin Gallagher, who will be looking to make a splash in the 50 and 100m freestyle, the 50 and 100m butterfly, as well as the 50m backstroke, with Emma Chelius presenting some tough competition in the butterfly events.
Kaylene Corbett and Christin Mundell will battle it out for the 50, 100 and 200m breaststroke titles, while Mundell will also swim the 200 and 400m freestyle, as well as the 200m individual medley.
Ayrton Sweeney, Alard and Alaric Basson, as well as Kerryn Herbst will also be among the talent on the hunt for medals in Morocco.
The swimming programme starts on Wednesday, 21st August with the heats session at 10h00, while the finals will begin at 17h00 daily.
